The most important tip: You cannot do it all. Do not try. If you try to do it all, you will drop of exhaustion. Pick and choose the most important things at each park that you want to do, and make those a priority. There is much more to do for anyone, for any length of time, and it’s impossible to “do it all” in one trip. Watch the Wait Times, follow the shortest lines where you can, and utilize Lightning Lanes when possible.

Getting to the Parks

Minnie Van (Lyft or Uber)

Sometimes Disney buses can be slow to arrive, or maybe they just FEEL slow because you are anxious to get to where you are going. To optimize your time, Disney's Minnie Van service utilizes the Lyft app but specifically within Disney property. It does have some cost to it, but at Disney, your time is money. Example of an Uber from Port Orleans French Quarter to Hollywood Studios at 6:00 am = $10.

The Minnie Vans accommodates up to 6 guests and offers two complementary child seats. Booking instructions are below:

  1. Open the Lyft app while visiting Walt Disney World Resort and enter your destination.

  2. Confirm your pickup location and tap “Select Minnie Van". If the Minnie Van service doesn’t immediately display, scroll through vehicle type options until it appears.

  3. Track your vehicle on a map provided by the app. You’ll also see the vehicle number to help you spot your car.

Early Entry for Resort Guests

All four parks open 30 minutes early for Disney Resort hotel guests with select attractions, merchandise, and food and beverage locations operating during this time. Your MyDisneyExperience account will show this time based on your plans for the day.

Arrive Early to the Parks

Arrive at the parks about 30-45 minutes before the stated opening times. The parks will usually open the turnstiles about 30 minutes early, although the rides and attractions won’t open until the stated opening time, the shops will be open. You can rent a stroller, browse the shops and be ready at the entrance to each ‘land’ when the rope drops at opening time.

For the Magic Kingdom, you can enter the park and Main Street, USA earlier than park opening. You can grab a coffee at Starbucks (snack credit but LONG lines) or start your shopping early. At park opening time, there is a show that will be performed by the characters in front of the castleopening the park to the guests.

Park Tips

Expectations

Although Disney is the leader in guest service, sometimes things DO go wrong. The weather, the crowds, lines for the bus transportation, unexpected attraction closings, dining reservation systems faults, and even on a rare occasion, you may encounter a cast member that is less than Disney-worthy friendlythese are all things that can and do happen. Please keep an open mind that not even Disney is perfect.

Guest Services

Use your Guest Services at the resort. If there is anything amiss or you want to change or do anything or need help with transportation etc., just ask! They are great! If you are not happy, do not be content with the problem. Let’s get it fixed! Squeaky wheels DO get oiled at Disney. If you are not happy with an answer from one cast member, ask for a manager. Disney is there to make and keep their guests happy and will go WAY out of their way to do soif they can.

Good Shoes

Wear your most comfortable shoes that are already broken in (kids, too!) You will have painful blisters on your feet if you don’t.

Breaks

Non-stop Disney is not for amateurs. While the temptation is to spend every waking minute in the parks, you’re better off planning some breaks. Head back to the resort for a swim or nap, reserve a nice meal and relax. The more days on your tickets, the less rushed you will feel. You can upgrade your tickets to add days at the Guest Relations desk at any of the four theme parks. If you can build in some rest time, that would be ideal. Plan on walking between 15,000-22,000 steps in any given park day.

"Return To" Stickers

Anything that you find valuable (cell phones, autograph books, special toys/blankets), put a sticker on with a “Return To” address. Disney will most likely send it to you if you should lose it in the parks or resorts.

Traveling with Kids

If you are traveling with children, take a close up picture of each kid with your phone so if you get separated there is a current picture with detail to show cast members. Dress them in bright colored clothing so they are easy to spot to keep an eye on them.

Keeping Cool

You can bring an empty spray bottle with you or misting bottle that you can fill up and spritz yourself with throughout your days. Disney sells them with a fan, and they are very nice, but you can DIY with any sprayer. Neck fans are also available on Amazon and great for hot weather!

Heat at Animal Kingdom

This is the hottest park so if you have a cooler day on your weather radar, you may want to do this park this day. Or get here early when it’s not as hot and then leave a little early to take a dip in your resort pool. The park is designed to be hotter for the sake of the animals and with the foliage around the park, it is a greenhouse effect. Wear light clothing when visiting this park.

Rain Days

It’s common in Florida for an afternoon rain at any time of the year, but it will almost ALWAYS rain in the afternoon for an hour or so during the summer months. Most attractions are built inside for this purpose and for the purpose of air-conditioning. You just need to get from one point to the next. The best ponchos really are the ones that Disney sells. They are heavy and won’t blow around with the wind. We keep them for souvenirs, and they are great for kids’ field trips. Of course, you can be prepared and bring your own as well, and that will probably be cheaper.

Charging Station

There are charging stations at Rapunzel’s Tower in Magic Kingdom, but I still recommend an external charger so you are not hostage to charging your phone.

Naps and Rest

Good places to go for a short snooze for the kids (and adults!) are: Hall of Presidents (Liberty Square/Magic Kingdom22 min); American Adventure (World Showcase/Epcot 30 min), Carousel of Progress (Tomorrow Land/Magic Kingdom20 minutes). The People Mover is also a great places to get a little quiet and rest.

Fire Ants!

DO NOT SIT ON THE GRASS ANYWHERE ON DISNEY PROPERTY AND ESPECIALLY NOT AT EPCOT! There could be fire antsdon’t take the chance. We’ve encountered themthey are not fun!

Virtual Queues

There are a few rides that may have a virtual queue during your trip, meaning you’ll need to enter the queue in the morning before you even arrive at the park. The rides that are on virtual queue change from time to time, so make sure to check the homepage of your MyDisneyExperience app the day before your park day to check which rides, if any, have virtual queue during your trip!

We have a few tips to ensure that you get a good return time for those rides:

  • At 7:00am EXACTLY, you can enter the Virtual Queue from your My Disney Experience app on your phone. Boarding Groups fill up within 10 seconds or less. Make sure to check your internet speed ahead of time and do this on the phone that has the fastest speed. You may want to log out of resort WiFi and use your data for faster speeds. If you are still at your resort, make sure to step outside, so the walls of your room do not interfere with the signal.

  • Download an Atomic Clock app or access one through a browser on your phone, this will give you the most accurate time, as your phone is probably running slow. If you have access to two phones, have the My Disney Experience app on one phone and the atomic clock on the other, so you don’t have to switch back and forth between apps.

  • Do not click the “Join” button before you’re ready to join because this will slow your system down. At 6:59:55am EXACTLY on the atomic clock, you can join the boarding group.

  • If you do not get a Boarding Group at 7:00am, don’t panic! You still have another shot at 1:00pm.

  • Once you have your Boarding Group (if you are fast and get one), you can monitor the call back on your app. Once your Boarding number is listed, you have 2 hours to get back to the entrance of your ride. When you are back and check-in to the experience, you will have a 1-hour line to get through. Use the bathroom before checking in as you will not have access to one for about 1.5 hours.

  • If you don’t get a Boarding Group until later in the day, it’s okay. I think it’s best experienced at night. Example of time: Our Boarding Group was 116 and our number was called about 7 p.m.

Memory Maker Photo Package

I can’t recommend this enough. If you have it, you need to be proactive in taking the time to get your pictures taken at every opportunity! You will be glad you did!

You can add this option for $185, but it must be added 3 days before you arrive. This will give you UNLIMITED photos, including the ride photos of you all screaming on Expedition Everest. Check out how Memory Maker works here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must download your pictures onto your computer within 30 days of the date of your first picture.

  • If you have Memory Maker, your package is linked to your Magic Bands. Your pictures are scanned onto your Bands for each photograph taken. You then can have any and all PhotoPass photographers that are scattered all over the parks take your pictures. As many and as often as you want. You can share one Memory Maker package for your family if you want and then you can all have the password and access the photos online when you get home.

  • If you do not have Memory Maker, when you enter a park, there will be Disney photographers there to take your picture.  Take advantage of this service.  They will scan your Magic Band (or ticket) that you can later look at and purchase if you want online. Use these photographers as often as you would like.  You can ask them to take pictures with your camera as well.  You can also get Memory Maker for 1 Day while you are in the park for a value price.

  • The Memory Maker package gives you all the benefits of the standard PhotoPass package but includes photographs at Donald’s Safari Breakfast and Chef Mickey ($30 each if purchased individually); and the following ride photos ($15 each): Space Mountain; Buzz Lightyear; Rock n Roller Coaster; Tower of Terror; Expedition Everest; and Test Track. The photo booths in Innoventions at the end of the Figment attraction are INCLUDED in Memory Maker, as well! So fun!

  • Don’t forget to ask your photographer about Magic Shots! The best way to get a Magic Shot is to ask the photographer if he/she can do a “few more photos.”

Parades & Shows

Festival of Fantasy Parade (Magic Kingdom)

A good spot to watch the Festival of Fantasy parade from is the front porch of the Town Square Theater at the front of the park. There aren’t usually many people up there and it’s elevated so you get a good view of the parade. If you want to be right down on the street, then make sure you get there EARLY to claim your spot. Another spot is to watch it at the start of the parade route in Frontierland where the parade begins from as you can then skedaddle afterwards and take advantage of a little time of shorter lines.

For a no crowd experience for fireworks, you can go back to Gaston's Tavern in Fantasyland, and grab a stool and watch the fireworks from there. They are shot off just behind that area so you will see the fireworks almost overhead. You miss the story and the projection on the castle, so I wouldn't do this unless you've already seen the castle show, but it is an option for return guests and guests who JUST want the fireworks and hate crowds.

Starlight Parade (Magic Kingdom)

Magic Kingdom's new Starlight Parade runs twice nightly; once before and after the firework show. While Festival of Fantasy runs from Frontierland to Main Street, the Starlight parade runs the opposite direction, from Main Street to Frontierland.

This is a very popular attraction, so if getting a good viewing spot is important to you, be prepared to get there early and wait! If you're looking to avoid big crowds, Frontierland viewing will be a little less packed.

Happily Ever After Fireworks Show (Magic Kigndom)

Magic Kingdom Tinkerbell will fly from the top of the castle to Tomorrowland Terrace. A good place to watch the show is on the bridge between Tomorrowland and the Hub as long as you have a clear view of the castle. Tinkerbell will fly over that area. Look for the cable above you going from the castle to Tomorrowland Terrace.

If you are one of the lucky ones that gets to see the fireworks more than once during your stay, an interesting perspective place to watch them is in Fantasyland by the Beast’s castle. You can pull up some stools from Gaston’s Tavern and watch the fireworks directly overhead.

If you are not IN the Magic Kingdom, but you still want to see the fireworks, there are a couple of places you can watch them where Disney pipes in the narration and music:

  • The beach at the Polynesian Resort

  • The balcony at the Contemporary Resort on the same floor as Chef Mickey. Walk past the shops and out the Exit doors. There is a little seating out there for the viewing. If those are full, you cannot climb the exterior stairs for additional viewing. Security may ask you to leave. When you get there, I think you will see what I mean.

EPCOT Nighttime Show

A good place to watch this Epcot night time show is in Canada or Mexico. If you are in America (furthest away from the entrance) for the viewing, you will have the most crowds to fight. Once the show is done, EVERYONE heads to the buses, water taxis, monorail and SkyLiner. You can imagine the chaos! If you can wait a little while, once the crowds dissipate, Epcot is a beautiful and quiet place to wander back to your mode of transport to your resort.

If you are staying at Boardwalk, Yacht, or Beach Club (ferry boat or walk back to yourwalking will be faster); or Caribbean Beach, Riviera Resort, Pop Century, Art of Animation (SkyLiner), definitely watch from Canada if you can. If you watch from Mexico, you will be “swimming up stream” to get back to the resort.

The other way to watch them if you are not in a hurry to get out of there, is watch them in Italy on the bridge. It’s a perfect spot to watch if you can get there. The only thing with that is you will be FOLLOWING the mass of crowds, so if you do that, plan to hang back and take your time getting to the front. If you are not in a hurry to leave, this is not a bad place to watch either.

Fantasmic! (Hollywood Studios)

Check Showtime for this show. Guests begin lining up for seating at least 1 hour prior to show time. If you want to see this show, get their early. If you have a Fantasmic! Package dining reservation, you will still need to arrive at least 30-45 minutes prior to show time, and you will enter via the Highlands Gate at the amphitheater, located between the Beauty and Beast Theater and the Once Upon a Time Store on Hollywood Blvd.

Wonderful World of Animation (Hollywood Studios)

The projection show in front of the Chinese Theatre is back! The show takes you on a journey through Disney and Pixar animation, starting and ending with Mickey Mouse!

Villians - Unfairly Ever After (Hollywood Studios)

This show is so good! It's over in the back side behind Rock-n-Roller Coaster, and they redid that pavilion, so there is a lot of seating space. Three villains vie for who is the most misunderstood villain, and the audience votes. The show is the villains' plea for the audience vote, and why they should be voted for. It really is fun and cute!

Always check the most up to date times for the parades and fireworks on your MyDisneyExperience app or the park calendar.

Ride Tips

Single Riders

Single Rider lines are available at Test Track, Rock n Roller Coaster, Expedition Everest, and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. If you don’t mind splitting your party up (you can usually get in the same ride, but just seated by another guest) this can save you a TON of time! A 180 minute wait Standby could have a 15 minute wait for Single Rider.

Rider Swap

If you have a little one that is either too little or just doesn’t want to ride an attraction that you want to go on with just yourself or with another child, tell the cast member at the ride entrance that you want to do a Rider Swap. You will be able to go through the line (Lightning Lane if you have one), ride it, and then Adult number two can return with a Rider Swap Pass with up to two young guests for the second ride later in the day or during your stay.

"Heads Up" App

Get the “Heads Up” app on your phone to play while you are waiting in line. It will make your line waiting go much faster with a few games. Do this before you leave home. This is fun for your whole party.

Haunted Mansion (Magic Kingdom)

When you enter the stretching room, stand under the girl with the umbrella. That is where the doors will open to the attraction/ride.

Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Magic Kingdom)

This has a lot of fun interactive things to do while you wait in line. It’s one of my favorites. When you see the honey walls, wipe them off to reveal a character.

Monster's Laugh Floor (Magic Kingdom)

Enter far to the right for front rowsalthough it really doesn’t matter where you sit in this audience. They do pick random people in the audience, sometimes it’s a birthday button that tips them off, or a first visit, but one thing is that they pick people who sit in front of the lamps, which they need for lighting. Just a hint.

Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom)

Flight of Passage is Pandora’s premier attraction, and it’s perhaps best described as a cross between Soarin’ and Star Tours with a ride system that resembles a row of motorcycles that are connected to one another in a single line. Riders straddle the seat, and restraints come around the calves and rise from the back after everyone is seated.

  • The seats detach slightly from their bays and them move back and forth and side to side to mimic the feeling of flight. There are a couple of minor “drops” through the sensation, so if you are prone to motion sickness, this may not be the ride for you.

  • Those that enjoy simulator rides should love Flight of Passage. You don’t need to have seen the movie to hop on the back of a dragon and ride it through a bright, alien world.

Kali River Rapids (Animal Kingdom)

Bring a large waterproof ziplock bag with you to Animal Kingdom Park for Kali River Rapids to keep your cell phones, camera’s and other electronics in while you ride the ride.

Soarin' Over the World (EPCOT)

They have added a second screen here which makes the line go faster, but you can still expect to wait for a while if you don’t get here early. If you can wait for the middle section, Row 2those are the best seats. If you are afraid of heightsselect Row 3 (lower to the ground).

Turtle Talk with Crush (EPCOT)

Have your kids sit right up in the front for best chance to talk with Crush. He seems to pick the kids to the right of the screen, front row.

Star Tours (Hollywood Studios)

There are 54 ride sequences for this attraction. Every time you ride, it could be different! Best time to ride this ride is DURING a Jedi Training Academy training. Lines will SPIKE as soon as the training session is done.

Toy Story Mania (Hollywood Studios)

This now has two tracks which has cut back on the lines substantially. You will want to ride this one twice! This is an excellent choice for a Lightning Lane!

Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios)

This is a 15-minute EXPERIENCE! It’s best experienced without knowing much about it except that it’s in Hollywood Studios, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If it is not in standby queue, it will be available through a Virtual Queue, read that section earlier for our best tips to get a good time for this ride!

Dining Tips

Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom)

Be Our Guest is now a prix fixe table-service restaurant for ALL meals (lunch and dinner). Breakfast is no longer offered. Unlike in the past, this is no longer a quick-service location at lunch, and guests must order the full prix fixe meal—you can’t enter just to purchase a small item (like the “gray stuff” cupcake) or use a snack credit.

  • Guests choose from a set 3-course menu (appetizer, entrée, dessert)

  • Pricing is fixed per adult/child (generally ~$60+ for adults, ~$35+ for kids, subject to change)

  • If you are using the Disney Dining Plan (when available), it typically requires 2 table-service credits per person

That said, the experience is still a highlight: you’ll dine inside beautifully themed rooms like the grand ballroom, the mysterious West Wing, or the elegant Rose Gallery—and occasionally encounter the Beast himself during your visit.

Oga's Cantina (Hollywood Studios)

This is a bar in Galaxy’s Edge with super cool drinks. If you want to dine here, you NEED to make an advance dining reservation 60 days before your travel date.

The Fuzzy TaunTaun has a numbing ingredient that will tingle your tongue and lips in a strange way. There are also non-alcoholic options like the Carbon Freeze (loved this one!), and Blue Bantha (blue flavored milk with a yummy Batuu cookie. There is only a couple of edibles (snacks) on the menu, including Batuu Bites. This is not a place for a “meal,” and you will most likely be standing at a table and not sitting.

Coffee

There are Starbucks in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

Free Ice Water!

You can ask for a FREE cup of ice water at anywhere they sell fountain drinks. Just ask for ice water—it’s FREE! If you have a resort refillable mug, you can use that to keep it insulated, or you can bring one of your own.

My Favorite Quick Service Dining Locations
  • Hollywood Studios - Pizza Planet, Backlot Express, Fairfax Fare

  • Animal Kingdom - Satu’li in Pandora, Yak n Yeti Cafe, Flame Tree BBQ

  • EPCOT - The Land Pavilion, Ground Floor, or any of the countries!

  • Magic Kingdom - Pecos Bills (Frontierland), Pinocchio’s Haus

  • Disney Springs - Blaze Pizza, D-lux Burgers, Earl of Sandwich

Splitting Quick Service Meals

To stretch your counter-service meals out, you can split them between two people. Disney does distinguish between child and adult meals. Children’s meals can be generous and can be split between two light eating children. Same for adults meals! Pecos Bill in Frontierland, you can order nachos and PILE on toppings which can make this is a BIG option for a counter-service meal.

Shopping Tips

Sending Souvenirs to Your Room

If you buy anything in the parks or in Disney Springs, just ask if you can have your packages sent to your resort. No problem. No fee. No carrying those “must haves!” The shops will have your packages sent to the resort by the following afternoon, so if you are leaving the following day, you will want to bring your packages with you.

China (EPCOT)

In the back of this shop, there is a man that spins cotton candy in an art form. Great experience to watch!

France (EPCOT)

In Plume et Palette, there are cosmetics, perfumes, scarves, hats. The ladies in there can do a little mini-makeover for you if you ask them to. There is also hand cream samples of a hand cream that is $100 a bottle called “Angel.”

Japan (EPCOT)

In the back of the shop in Japan, there is a lady that makes candy. Ask if she is in. She gives them away after she makes them. They have some very unusual kinds of candy in there! Some have edible wrappers!

They also have oysters, and you can select one with a guaranteed pearl in them for $16. Such a fun experience!

Harmony Barber Shop (Magic Kingdom)

This is an actual barber shop at the front of the Magic Kingdom. They do an almost traditional haircut for you gents, but also do some fun things. Kids can get a haircut and color hair gel and Mickey confetti, or glow-in-the-dark gel in the shape of Mickey that you can’t see until you go through the rides with fluorescent lights, where then it glows for anyone to see behind you. If you have a child that needs a first haircut, they will give the child a First Haircut certificate, a special Mickey ear hat with “First Haircut” on the back, and will package up the first lock of hair.

This is also a good alternative for little girls who are under 3 who can’t go to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique—they will do pigtails and pixie dust for them here. There are three chairs—two of them take advanced reservations and one is for walk ups. If you have your heart set on this, make a reservation. This is located just to the left as you enter Main Street. Look for the barber shop pole.

Sir Mickey's Shop (Magic Kingdom)

This shop is just outside Cinderella’s Castle in Fantasyland. If you go in here and ask to be PIXIE DUSTED, they will give anyone a pixie dust wish. t’s fun and magical! Every little princess should get this done! (Pixie dust is a plant-based glitter, and will wash off easily.)

This is also the location for the PhotoPass Studio. If you have the Memory Maker, you can do a good photo shoot back in the studio (back of the store). The PhotoPass photographers will be eager to see you as this is not a well-known location and will give you and your family/friends lots of personal attention! (There is another PhotoPass studio with different backdrops in Disney Springs in the PhotoPass shop.)
