Summer is here, and I’m kicking mine off by heading to Costa Rica with my husband and daughter! Costa Rica is a place I’ve never been before, but with the promise of beaches and beautiful weather, I know it will be an amazing adventure.

Our trip will start on June 10 with a night stay in the Days Inn & Suites hotel at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Then we’ll wake up at the crack of dawn (or before!) to catch our 6:25am flight from Detroit to Miami.

From Miami, we’ll fly to San Jose, arriving at 11:40am. Once in San Jose, we’ll travel to our resort – the Tabacón Thermal Resort and Spa.

From what I know, the Tabacón Resort is the perfect mixture of adventure and relaxation. It is set on more than 900 acres of lush tropical reserve, including Costa Rica’s largest network of naturally flowing hot springs. We’re staying in the Orchid Room, offering an unobstructed view of the tropic rainforest surroundings.

The next day, we’ll start the day with a horseback riding tour to La Fortuna Waterfall. Though the water is chilly, it’s a great place to swim or enjoy a picture – and certainly get lots of amazing pictures!

In the afternoon, we’ll adventure to the Sky Tram and zip line, taking a tour through the mountains to get to the observation platform. The zip line circuit is a thrilling trip that starts with an open-air gondola and then soars through canyons and in between treetops. It’s known as the most thrilling zip line in the country.

Wednesday, we’ll adventure through the Arenal Volcano Nation Park on the famous hanging bridges, getting a view of the island’s volcano, as well as a scenic lake.

That will be the end of our time at the Tabacon, and we’ll check into El Mangroove resort on Wednesday, as well. El Mangroove is located on the Gulf of Papagayo and provides guests with an authentic Costa Rican experience.

After three nights relaxing on the beach at El Mangroove, we’ll check into Los Altos Beach Resort and Spa for a two-night stay. Our two bedroom treetop suite will give us a great view of the dynamic array of plant and animal life. Here, we’ll be able to immerse ourselves in the lush rainforest preserve and watch out for a toucan or two.

After a night in Los Altos, we’ll start our morning with a snorkeling tour, exploring the exotic Costa Rican sea-life.

One more night at Los Altos and then we’re back to the airport for a flight home at 2:35pm. We’ll arrive back in Detroit at 10:20pm and stay one more night at the Days Inn & Suites at the airport.
